Jane Austen Tea Party

Let me start off by saying, I have an unabashed love for Jane Austen. I don’t care what anyone says. I love the era, the romance, all of it. And I’m pretty sure I’m not the only girl who has spent hours daydreaming her own life as if it were Pride and Prejudice. I’ve always wanted to live as a character in one of her novels. So I decided, why not? Thus, another party theme was born: a Jane Austen Sweet Sixteen Tea Party.

As stated on the invitation, everyone was to wear Regency Dress. The boys wore suits while the girls wore dresses. Some girls wore elegant prom-style dresses that were similar to Jane Austen’s era while others wore simple Sunday dresses. Any outfit available works but it is more fun if you go full out; top hat, gloves and all!

Since it was a tea party, there weren’t very many decorations needed. Instead, the focus is on food and your table settings. A lace tablecloth, candles, flowers, and fancy napkins are about as much as you need for decorations. Then you’ll want to serve on nice dishes, making sure to have a tea pot and tea cups!

When it comes to food, the more the better! Try and keep in the style of the era but really any treat will do. Here are some of the desserts and finger foods I would suggest serving:

  • strawberries and cream
  • chicken salad
  • cupcakes
  • trifle
  • muffins
  • sandwiches
  • rolls
  • cakes
  • pavlova
  • wassle

The whole event was a lot of fun. The girls loved the dresses and the fancy food. The boys loved the girls and talking in very formal British accents. After eating, we watched Pride and Prejudice. I laughed as it looked like the boys actually enjoyed the movie more than the girls.

So this was definitely a fun theme and very easy. Everyone loved it and I loved baking cute, little desserts for it. Jane Austen tea party

And I don’t think I’ll ever turn down the opportunity to wear a Jane Austen styled outfit. :)
